Films: Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (1973)
Alias: None
Type: Mystical
Location: Haunted home
Height/Weight: That of guinea pigs.
Affiliation: Evil
Summary: Gremlins didn't get here first. These were the original small terrors causing mayhem. But theirs is a sophisticated mayhem. One focused on only one.
History: Sally's family has recently moved into a mansion once owned by her grandmother. Strangely, the fireplace is barricaded by bricks. After she rather recklessly removes some bricks, despite some warnings, she finds it leads to a dark basement. Oh, and this place houses little creatures known as Homunculi, who are a bit too grateful for her releasing them, and want her to become one of them.
Notable Kills: Nothing special.
Final Fate: After slipping sedatives into her coffee and cutting off the electricity, the Homunculi drag Sally into their domain. She is now in league with them, and eagerly awaits the next one to release them.
Powers/Abilities: Can covert any being to one of their own.
Weakness: Bright lights.
Scariness Factor: 3.5-Admittingly, their small stature and cartoonish stretched-out faces are a bit silly. However, they are smart enough to engineer death and even get around their obvious weakness. You can't fault them for tenacity.
Trivia: -Guillermo del Toro grew up fearing and admiring this movie, and even had a hand in the 2011 remake. We'll get to that WAY down the line.
-Some say there is a bit of feminism in this film, seeing how Sally’s worries fall on deaf ears most of the time, representing the problems women face being heard.
